Low Carb Diet Terms:
  • Stimulants - used and sometimes abused to boost endurance and productivity as well as to suppress appetite for weight loss. Examples of stimulants are caffeine, amphetamines, ecstasy and cocaine.
  • OA - acronym for Overeaters Anonymous.
  • Dr. Dean Ornish Diet - a somewhat popular vegetarian diet that emphasizes low fat, filling foods which includes legumes and other high-fiber foods. It is specifically formulated to reverse heart disease but has recently been used as a weight loss program.
  • Trans fatty acid (commonly trans fat) - an unsaturated fatty acid with molecules that contain trans double bonds between carbon atoms, making the molecules less kinked compared with those of cis fat. Research suggests a correlation between diets high in trans fats and diseases like atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.
  • Processed foods are likely to contain trans fats - snack foods, fried foods, baked goods, salad dressings, and vegetable shortenings and margarines.
